International advertising rules to check before you launch

This is general information, not legal advice. Rules differ by country and change over time. For regulated products or large campaigns, get local legal advice.

Privacy and consent

Many countries regulate how you collect and use personal data, including cookies and tracking for advertising. Some require consent before tracking. Check what your site's cookie banner and forms do in each market.

Consumer protection

Rules on price display, sales claims, free offers, returns and subscriptions differ. Some countries require taxes to be included in displayed prices.

Restricted products and services

Health, finance, gambling, alcohol, political and other categories are often restricted by law and by platform policy, and the limits vary by country. Platforms publish country-specific policies.

Disclosures and endorsements

Paid partnerships, reviews and influencer posts usually need clear disclosure, and the required wording can differ.

Language requirements

Some places require advertising or product information in an official language. Check before running ads only in English.

Comparative advertising

Naming competitors is allowed in some countries under strict conditions and limited in others. When unsure, avoid it.

A pre-launch checklist

  1. Read the platform's policies for the product and the country.
  2. Check privacy and consent on your site for that market.
  3. Confirm prices, taxes and terms are shown the local way.
  4. Get local advice for regulated categories.
